Program Description

First Step Early Childhood Education Center is a licensed daycare open to the community. The childcare serves children age six weeks to six years. Our philosophy is to provide an atmosphere that allows each child to develop to their full potential physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially.

First Step is designed to increase each child’s self-concept by providing activities in which the child is free to choose and learn new skills at his/her own pace. Teachers guide and encourage children to succeed at small experiences which help them develop courage to try increasingly difficult tasks and experience greater success. Many creative experiences are provided so that the child will learn to work and play independently in a non-competitive environment. In learning to live cooperatively, the child will learn the importance of their rights and the rights of others. The program is designed to be free of race and sex role biases and stereotyping. Childcare hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am – 6:00pm.

First Step Early Childhood Education Center is open to the public. Please refer to the FS Intake Packet for more information.

Fees

Fees vary depending on schedule and age of child. 10% discount is available to parents who pay tuition 1 month in advance. Childcare assistance and subsidies welcome. See rate sheet.

We are conveniently located at 3036 university Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414 near Hwy. 280 and the University of MN. The #16 bus stops right outside our front door and light rail is coming soon.
